BOISE — One child was taken to the hospital, and a school bus driver was cited, after an SUV crashed into a school bus in Boise Monday morning.

The wreck happened at 8:25 a.m. on eastbound State Street near 18th Street. Boise police said the bus was heading east on State and the SUV was southbound on 18th when the crash happened in the intersection.

According to Boise School District spokesman Dan Hollar, four students were on board the bus when it was broadsided by the SUV. The children were headed to Hawthorne Elementary.

One child, who uses a wheelchair, was taken to the hospital as a precaution, Hollar said. That student’s brother was also on the bus, and was taken to the hospital as well, but wasn’t hurt.

The other two children were picked up by their parents, according to Hollar.

The SUV’s driver was taken to a local hospital and was treated and released.

The bus driver was not hurt, but was cited for failure to obey a traffic control device. Police said, based on witness information, that it appears the driver failed to stop for a red light.
