The Idaho State Board of Education has named five finalists for the presidency of Boise State University. Each is visiting campus for one day.
Faculty and staff are invited to attend an open forum with Jack Thomas from 1:15-2:15 p.m. Thursday, April 26. A student open forum will be held from 2:30-3:30 p.m. Both forums are in the Simplot Ballroom BDE, Student Union Building.
A community reception also will be open to the public from 5-7 p.m. at the Alumni and Friends Center.
Thomas was named president of Western Illinois University in 2011. Under his leadership, it continues to be ranked as a “Best Midwestern College” and as a “Best Regional University” by The Princeton Review and U.S. News and World Report, respectively.
He previously served as WIU’s provost and academic vice president, senior vice provost for academic affairs and interim dean at Middle Tennessee State University, and in various capacities at other universities including interim president, executive vice president, associate vice president for academic and student affairs, executive assistant to the president, chair of the Department of English and Modern Languages, coordinator of freshman English, and assistant track coach.
Thomas earned a Ph.D. in English (Literature and Criticism) from Indiana University of Pennsylvania, a Master of English Education from Virginia State University and a Bachelor of Arts in English from Alabama A and M University.
