BOISE — New mandatory evacuations have been issued for the Cottonwood area and voluntary evacuations have been issued for the South Exeter area of Adams County due to the Mesa Fire, which is burning just off Highway 95 about four miles south of Council.

The 1,500-acre fire was reported around 8 p.m. Thursday night and is believed to be human-caused.

Residents living on Fall Creek Road have already been evacuated.

Adams County dispatch tells us that evacuees can go to these locations:

  • Council Community Church
  • Council Assembly of God
  • Council Elementary School

Officials say hot and dry weather is expected over the weekend and temperatures will remain above normal.

Motorists need to be aware that Highway 95 south of Council is closed because of the Keithly Fire. U.S. 95 remains closed as of 4 p.m. Friday from mileposts 93 to 105, Mann Creek to Midvale.

If you are traveling this weekend, you are advised to check the latest road reports before heading out.
